Sexism in the Classroom In â€Å"Failing at Fairness† one of the most important topics of sexism is addressed, and that of course is sexism in the schools. From the beginning of public education there is evidence of hidden sexism in the classroom, yet not until recently have researchers began to take a closer look at the dilemma at hand. Sexism in the classroom is not a problem that has just occurred overnight in schools. I believe that it has a history, staring long before I was born. I love to listen to the stories that my Grandparents share with me, as do many children my age. They always tell me how great those â€Å"good old days† were. Yet the stories make me step back and look at my grandparents, and see that those â€Å"good old days† are very different from today. Back then, the male role was heads of the household and they were responsible for any of the â€Å"physical work† to be done around the house. On the other hand, women had much less say in what was going on in the house, community, and even the nation. For the most part, women stayed home to take care of the kids and do all the housework that needed to be done. This has been the way of life for along time right up until the Second World War. Then slowly women began to work their way into the work force, leaving those elementary ideas behind. Through the years women have gained more and more rights focus on equality, but are they really equal? To some extent yes, and by law yes, but there are still those hidden views and ideas that are continually being pushed on society. I have always witnessed sexism in the classroom, even though I have attended catholic school all my life. I believe that it is more harmful if it is not that obvious. For instance, if sexism is taking place in a kindergarten class, and no one is there to correct it from the beginning, girls will feel like they are inferior to the boys and therefore hold back in participation. Resemblence Between Christ and Aslan Essay

In the first two books, Aslan is a clear-cut figure. Aslan is what Jesus would be like in Narnia. He acts as a parallel and inspires fear in his enemies and love and devotion in his friends. He makes the four children high kings and queens, and banishes evil from his kingdom. It is like a fairy tale. He undergoes development through the sequence of seven books though, becoming more distanced and formal. In The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Aslan seems more distant; he appears in other forms, such as a lamb. In the New Testament, Christ is depicted as a lamb. Lewis deepens the spiritual experience of his characters by making Aslan harder to find. Faith now enters into the equation, belief without seeing. An example is the mouse Reepicheep, who is determined to find Aslan’s Country (symbolizing Heaven), even if he has to swim to the end of the world to do so. The last two Chronicles address the beginning and end of Narnia. The Magician’s Nephew gives us Narnia’s Genesis account. Here Aslan is established as the Creator and he sings Narnia into existence. It is very similar to the story in Genesis of God creating the world. Aslan tells the creatures, â€Å"I give to you forever this land of Narnia. I give you the woods, the fruits, the rivers†¦The Dumb Beasts whom I have not chosen are yours also†. Other examples of the similarities between Christ and Aslan include when Aslan says â€Å"I am the great Bridge-builder†. Christ in the New Testament too says, â€Å"I am the Way, the Door†: In The Horse and His Boy Aslan tells â€Å"‘Touch me. Smell me. Here are my paws, here is my tail, these are my whiskers'† which is like Jesus telling John to touch his hands and side when he doubts Him. Another resemblance is that the blood of both Jesus and Aslan can bring the dead to life. A drop of blood from Aslan’s pierced paw revives the dead Prince Caspian and brings him to a younger version of himself in The Silver Chair. Christ’s shed blood has the power to resurrect believers into new life too. In the same book, Aslan replies â€Å"I am† which parallels the reply God gave Moses, â€Å" I Am Who I Am†. There is a Stone Table in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe that is where the Witch slew Aslan. However, the Witch did not know of magic even older than the stone table â€Å"that when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor’s stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backward†. This mimics the resurrection of Jesus after He dies on the cross. After the resurrection of both Christ and Aslan, it is first discovered by the female followers. In this case it being Susan and Lucy for Aslan and Mary Magdalene along with the other women for Christ. After Aslan returns to life, he goes to the White Witch’s castle and breaths life back into the creatures she had once turned into stone. Jesus creates life after death after he resurrects and holds the keys of death and Hell. The Bible and The Chronicles of Narnia have a shared likeness.

Case Scenario: Big Time Toymaker. The parties did have a contract for exclusive negotiation rights as stated in the case scenario. Big Time Toymaker (BTT) paid Chou $25,000 for a 90-day period of exclusivity, thus prohibiting Chou from soliciting or entertaining offers from other parties. The agreement stipulated that unless it was written no distribution contract existed. Prior to the 90-days elapsing, the parties reached an oral agreement and BTT sent Chou an e-mail titled â€Å"Strat Deal† covering the key terms of the distribution agreement reaffirming the oral agreement.This e-mail does not constitute a contract for several reasons. First, this was part of the negotiation process and Chou failed to draft the contract to â€Å"memorialize† the deal. Second, the requirement of a signature is in compliance with the statute of frauds. This is the one element uniformly required to compel a court to enforce. Factors that weigh in for Chou are first, the e-mail sent by BT T’s manager clearly shows delineates the terms of the distribution agreement. Second, BTT’s request for the draft contract even after a month had elapsed.These actions go to show that BTT intended to continue the deal even after a month. Factors that weigh against are first, Chou failed to send the draft contract as he stated. Second, Chou assumed the e-mail sent by BTT took the place of a written distribution agreement contract. Third, he failed to follow up and get an agreement in writing signed. BTT’s e-mail to Chou caused further investigation in the analysis of the first two questions. First, the case scenario states the e-mail was sent by â€Å"a BTT manager,† not the chief executive officer or the like.The e-mail on its own is not sufficient to constitute â€Å"signed writings† within the meaning of Statute of Frauds. Last, the e-mail lacked the typed name of the person at BTT authorized to make the deal. BTT could not back out of the contra ct under the doctrine of mistake. Under this doctrine there has to be a misunderstanding that any of the parties erroneously believe that certain facts is true, or a common mistake shared by both parties (â€Å"Different Types of Lawyer,†Ã‚  2011). In this case no key misunderstanding existed and common mistake made that was operative.According to Melvin (2011),  consideration is most often when the offeror holds an offer open for a period. For arguments sake, and this e-mail constituted an agreement, the consideration would be the one month from Chou received the e-mail and the fax request from BTT. There are four remedies for breach of contract under UCC Article 2. Categorized as remedies of law; the first is compensatory damages, which cover direct losses and costs. Compensatory damages are an attempt to put the non-breaching party in the same position it would have been had they not suffered the breach.Second are consequential damages, which are to cover indirect and fo reseeable losses not covered by compensatory damages. Third is restitution to prevent the unjust enrichment of one party in the agreement. Fourth, liquidated damages are provisions agreed to by the parties when drawing up the contract in the event of a default or breach of contract by either party (Melvin, 2011). Warranties come in two forms, either expressed or implied. The difference in the two is expressed warranties are stated and implied warranties are terms not discussed by the parties yet covered by the UCC.Examples of expressed warranties are often supplied with new automobiles or cell phones sold with lengthy, written, and specific warranties. An example of an implied warranty would be a mason who has become accustomed to the quality of brick his supplier has been providing. A violation of the implied warranty would be the consistency of the bricks changes, and the quality is not as good. When the civil rights movement began, the legal system did not grat the same rights to blacks and other minorities as it did to whites. Today, those laws have been changed, leading some to argue that the U.S. has achieved a level playing field for all. Consider what Koppelman has to say about the idea of a level playing field. Do you think the playing field has been leveled? Is success based exclusively on merit and luck, or is race-based "privilege" still a factor? Discrimination can hinder people with better qualifications from excelling in life and instead favor those who have god fathers despite them be not qualified. Racism can also hinder a qualified professional from excelling and favor the unqualified. In a world where discrimination is practiced there is no way we can say success is exclusively based on merit and luck, races of these policies include racial quotas or gender quotas for collegiate admission. Some states such as California and Washington have prohibited affirmative action thus there is no way it can be considered as successful.; Question 3 Some people argue that racism is primarily a belief or attitude and that anyone who unfairly judges another based on race is racist. Others argue that racism is about action and institutional discrimination, therefore only those with the power to act, and not those who are the targets of discrimination, can be racist. If you have a positive attitude towards them you will try to support them and may be try to urge the management to treat them fairly as they are still human beings. Individual racism is more offensive than institutional racism because you can always change from the institution which is discriminating you but it is difficult to stay away from someone who is discriminating. In one or the other you will have to collide with these individuals who are discriminating you and you always feel humiliated in their presence. There is a big difference between racism and prejudice. Racism is the practice whereby there is different treatment to some groups of people both socially and legally and is then justified by recourse to racial stereotyping.
